British men in couples still think they are in charge of the finances and debt management, according to new research.
A total of 57 per cent of men claim to be the major financial decision maker in the household - despite only six per cent of women feeling the same way, a study from Halifax found.
In contrast, only 36 per cent of women claim that they make all the financial decisions in the household, with just three per cent of men admitting that this does happen.
However, 60 per cent of women feel that subjects such as debt consolidation and loans are discussed equally.
Halifax`s Jaedon Green said: "No matter who holds the purse strings, whether it`s you, your partner or both, it`s important to seek sound financial advice to aid your decision."
Recent research by Halifax found that 99 per cent of local authorities in the south of the UK reported first-time homebuyers having to pay stamp duty on their properties.
