Britain`s fourth biggest bank is being threatened with a winding-up order after it failed to pay back customers` overdraft charges.
Some charges imposed when customers of HBOS, which owns Halifax and the Bank of Scotland, went overdrawn have not been paid back to the customers even after judgments made by Cardiff County Court.
Ten of the bank`s customers took their complaints to court after being owed a total of £45,643 in overdraft charges. Under the Insolvency Act, winding-up will start if HBOS does not comply with the Cardiff court judgments within 21 days.
Marc Gander, from the Consumer Action Group, told the BBC: "The pattern of the bank`s behaviour is completely in line with our experience. They have been obstructive and arrogant, both of the customer and the legal system."
Earlier this year, a district judge upheld a high street bank`s overdraft charges for the first time.
